This vintage balance scale was just the thing for illustrating how many little ones can weigh more than one weighty one. The bevy of chicks facing off against one big chicken was so exciting they practically painted themselves. As for the big chicken - beware of smooth surfaces, they're very hard to nail down. (Feel free to draw your own analogies.)
I had a great time painting the various textures of the pottery, brass pans and tarnished metal mechanism. So many subtle variations of yellow and of grey! Its the most difficult thing about painting - making minor color and value shifts that create a realistic effect.
The fact that this one has a message and a sense of humor is icing on the cake!
