Orange Ginger

6 x 8" oil on board

SOLD

This pear-shaped mandarin orange was such a find! Lumpy and luscious, I love the shape and the texture.

Then I set the orange on a box to bring it to eye level and the swirly, burly pattern of the wood was so interesting. It seemed destined to be joined by the ginger jar which also has an interesting swirly movement in it's low relief glaze. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone but me, but it clearly spoke to me.

There is always a reason why certain elements are placed together in a still life set up. It's never random because I know I'll spend a lot of time staring at the objects and the composition has to resonate for me. The variety of patterns, surfaces and textures is often a big part of what is ultimately interesting. Plus... these guys just look like buddies.
